Washington, DCLocal News

Mayor Muriel Bowser officially opened the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, comprising 146 for-sale units, including 22 designated as affordable housing. This development is a key element of the redevelopment of the McMillan Sand Filtration Site, aiming to transform it into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood. Bowser stated that the project demonstrates the ability to repurpose underutilized land for productive community use. The public-private partnership includes multiple developers, such as EYA and Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners, contributing to the creation of apartments and retail spaces. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed personal pride in the project, which reflects the values of the local community and aims to enhance neighborhood amenities.

The townhome design complements the historic structures of the site, further enriching the area's character. This initiative supports Bowser's Growth Agenda and her commitment to affordable housing, with significant budget allocations for housing programs. To foster community engagement, the Reservoir District also announced a summer event series featuring various activities aimed at bringing residents together.
