Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, delivering 146 new homes, including 22 affordable units. This project is part of a broader redevelopment of the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which now includes a recreation center and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser stated that the initiative showcases the potential of transforming underutilized land into vibrant neighborhoods. The public-private partnership involves key developers such as EYA and Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners, who will also contribute apartments and retail spaces.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie remarked on the project's deep personal significance to him and the community, emphasizing the inclusion of affordable housing and amenities. The development aligns with Bowser's commitment to building affordable housing, supported by a budget that allocates over $175 million for new community developments. Additionally, the Reservoir District will host a summer event series focused on community engagement and celebration. This initiative aims to foster a sense of belonging among residents and celebrate the area's cultural heritage.
