Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, introducing 146 new homes, including 22 affordable units. This project revitalizes the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, now featuring a recreation center and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser stated that the project exemplifies the ability to transform underutilized land into productive spaces that offer new homeownership opportunities. The development is a collaboration between the District of Columbia and Vision McMillan Partners, which will also include additional apartments and retail spaces.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie described the ribbon-cutting as deeply personal, reflecting decades of community effort. Bowser's FY26 Budget continues to support housing with significant funding for various programs aimed at enhancing affordability. The project aligns with Bowser's Growth Agenda, emphasizing inclusive prosperity in the District. Additionally, the Reservoir District plans to launch a community summer event series, fostering neighborhood engagement and cultural appreciation.
