Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, delivering 146 for-sale homes, of which 22 are affordable. This development is part of a broader initiative to revitalize the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which now includes a recreation center and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser highlighted the goal of transforming underutilized land into vibrant neighborhoods, stating, "new homeownership opportunities" are essential for DC residents. The project is a collaboration with Vision McMillan Partners, focusing on creating a mixed-use community.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie noted the project's significance, reflecting the community's values and needs. Bowser's FY26 Budget allocates substantial funding for housing initiatives, including $100 million for the Housing Protection Trust Fund. Additionally, the Reservoir District will host its first summer event series featuring music, culture, and family activities. This initiative underscores the commitment to fostering a sense of community within the newly developed neighborhood.
