Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, featuring 146 homes, 22 of which are affordable, to conclude National Homeownership Month. This development is part of a larger revitalization of the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, transforming it into a mixed-use neighborhood with new recreational facilities. The project, a collaboration between the District of Columbia and Vision McMillan Partners, includes additional apartments and retail spaces. Mayor Bowser stated that this initiative showcases the ability to repurpose underutilized land for productive use, enhancing homeownership opportunities. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed pride in the project, emphasizing its reflection of community values and the long-awaited improvements to the area.
The townhome design features white brick facades that echo the site's historical elements. This development aligns with the Bowser Administration's affordable housing initiatives, which include significant funding in the FY26 Budget. The Reservoir District also announced a summer event series to foster community engagement and celebrate local culture.
