Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser officially opened the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, delivering 146 for-sale homes, with 22 designated as affordable. This initiative is part of a comprehensive redevelopment of the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which now includes a recreation center, aquatic center, and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser highlighted the project's role in transforming underutilized land into thriving neighborhoods that offer essential amenities and homeownership opportunities. The development showcases a public-private partnership, involving Vision McMillan Partners and EYA, among others.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed pride in the project's community-driven approach, noting its long history and dedication to local values. The townhomes' architecture complements the site's historic structures, featuring white brick facades inspired by the area's past. This initiative is part of Bowser’s broader Growth Agenda for DC, which continues to prioritize affordable housing investments. A summer event series will launch at the Reservoir District, fostering community engagement through various activities and performances.
