Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser celebrated the opening of the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, delivering 146 new homes, including 22 affordable units. This initiative revitalizes the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, transforming it into a mixed-use neighborhood with parks and community facilities. Bowser noted the importance of repurposing underutilized land for homeownership opportunities. The public-private partnership involves Vision McMillan Partners and various developers, enhancing local amenities. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie emphasized the project’s alignment with community values and its historical significance.
The design of the townhomes reflects the area's heritage, featuring white brick facades reminiscent of historic structures. This development supports Bowser’s FY26 Budget, which allocates significant funds for housing initiatives. Additionally, the Reservoir District announced a summer event series to engage the community and celebrate the neighborhood's culture and history.
