Washington, DCLocal News

Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, featuring 146 homes, including 22 affordable units aimed at increasing homeownership opportunities. This development is part of a larger project that revitalized the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, now home to parks and recreational facilities. Bowser highlighted the transformation of underutilized land into thriving neighborhoods that cater to the needs of DC residents. The project represents a public-private partnership involving the District and Vision McMillan Partners, incorporating contributions from EYA, Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners, and Trammell Crow Company. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie emphasized the project's personal significance to him and the community, noting its long history and alignment with local values.

The townhome design complements the preserved historic structures at the site, enhancing the area's aesthetic appeal. This initiative is part of Bowser's broader Growth Agenda for DC, supported by significant funding for affordable housing in her FY26 Budget. The ribbon-cutting event also announced a summer event series to engage the community and celebrate the new neighborhood's offerings.
