Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, which includes 146 for-sale units, 22 of which are affordable. This development is part of the broader transformation of the McMillan Sand Filtration Site, previously a vacant water treatment facility. Bowser described the project as a model for utilizing underutilized land to provide homeownership opportunities and community amenities. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed personal pride in the project, emphasizing its reflection of community values and the importance of local input in development. The townhomes' design echoes historical elements from the site, fostering a connection to the area's past.
The initiative supports Bowser's commitment to affordable housing, with significant budget allocations for housing programs. The Reservoir District also announced a summer event series to engage residents and celebrate the community. This revitalization represents a significant step towards creating a thriving neighborhood where residents can live, work, and play.
