Washington, DCLocal News

Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, delivering 146 units, 22 of which are affordable. This project revitalizes the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, transforming it into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood. Bowser stated that this initiative showcases the city's ability to repurpose underutilized land for productive use, enhancing homeownership opportunities. The development is a collaborative effort between the District of Columbia and Vision McMillan Partners, which will also include apartments and retail spaces. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, a local resident, expressed pride in the project’s reflection of community values and its long-term vision.

The townhome design complements historic structures on-site, featuring white brick facades inspired by original sand silos. This project supports Mayor Bowser's Growth Agenda, which includes a $100 million investment in the Housing Protection Trust Fund. Additionally, the Reservoir District launched a summer event series to foster community engagement and celebrate local culture.
