Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site

Washington, DCLocal News

Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated 146 townhomes at the Reservoir District in Ward 5, with 22 designated as affordable, to conclude National Homeownership Month. This redevelopment project revitalizes the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which now features a recreation center, aquatic center, and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser emphasized that public-private partnerships are crucial for transforming underutilized land into thriving neighborhoods. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed pride in the project’s reflection of community values, which took decades to realize.

The townhome design complements the historical structures on-site, enhancing the area’s aesthetic appeal. Bowser's FY26 Budget invests significantly in housing initiatives, including $100 million for the Housing Protection Trust Fund. The Reservoir District will also host a summer event series to foster community engagement and celebrate local culture. This initiative supports the Bowser Administration’s mission of promoting inclusive prosperity and strong neighborhoods.
