Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, delivering 146 for-sale homes, including 22 affordable units. This development is part of a broader initiative to revitalize the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site into a mixed-use neighborhood. Mayor Bowser underscored the transformation of underutilized land into vibrant spaces for residents, emphasizing the project's public-private partnership approach. Vision McMillan Partners, EYA, and other developers are involved in the initiative, which includes additional apartments and retail spaces. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed pride in the project, noting its reflection of community values and the long-standing efforts to realize this development.
The townhomes feature designs that complement the site's historic structures, enhancing the area's aesthetic. This project aligns with Bowser's Growth Agenda and her commitment to affordable housing, supported by substantial funding in her FY26 Budget. Additionally, the Reservoir District announced a summer event series aimed at fostering community engagement and enjoyment of the new neighborhood amenities.
