Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser officially opened 146 new townhomes in the Reservoir District, with 22 units set aside as affordable housing, marking a significant step towards increasing homeownership in Washington, DC. This development is part of a larger initiative to redevelop the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site into a vibrant mixed-use community. Bowser noted that the project demonstrates the effectiveness of public-private partnerships in revitalizing underutilized land. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed pride in the project, which has been decades in the making and reflects the values of the local community. The townhomes feature designs that echo historic structures from the site, enhancing the neighborhood's character.
Bowser's FY26 Budget continues to prioritize housing with substantial funding for various housing programs. Additionally, the Reservoir District will launch its first summer event series, aimed at fostering community engagement and celebrating local culture. This series will include live performances, wellness activities, and educational tours, further integrating the new neighborhood with its residents.
