Washington, DCLocal News

Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, delivering 146 for-sale homes, including 22 affordable units. This project revitalizes the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, enhancing community living with a recreation center, aquatic center, and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser emphasized the initiative's role in creating homeownership opportunities and transforming underutilized land into vibrant neighborhoods. The public-private partnership involves Vision McMillan Partners, with various developers contributing to apartments and retail spaces.

Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, who grew up in the area, noted the project reflects long-time residents' values and needs. The development aligns with Mayor Bowser's commitment to affordable housing, supported by a budget allocation of $100 million for the Housing Protection Trust Fund. The ribbon-cutting also launched a summer event series, offering cultural and community activities to engage residents. This initiative aims to foster a sense of community in the newly developed Reservoir District.
