Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, providing 146 for-sale units, with 22 designated as affordable housing. This initiative revitalizes the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, transforming it into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood. Mayor Bowser emphasized the role of public-private partnerships in bringing productive use to underutilized land. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, a local resident, expressed pride in the project's reflection of community values after decades of planning. The townhomes' design complements historic structures on-site, enhancing the area's aesthetic.
This development supports the Bowser Administration's commitment to affordable housing and local economic growth, with significant budget allocations for housing initiatives. At the ribbon-cutting event, the Reservoir District announced a summer event series to engage residents through music, culture, and community activities. The series will take place at the Reservoir Park Recreation Center, featuring a range of family-friendly programming designed to foster community connections.
