Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, featuring 146 for-sale townhomes, 22 of which are designated as affordable. This redevelopment initiative aims to transform the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood. Mayor Bowser noted the project's significance in addressing housing demands and enhancing community resources. The Reservoir District represents a public-private partnership, with contributions from various developers, including EYA and Jair Lynch Real Estate Partners. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed pride in the project's completion, which aligns with community values and needs.
In addition to housing, the site includes a community center and park, enhancing local amenities. The development reflects Mayor Bowser’s commitment to affordable housing, backed by substantial budget allocations for housing initiatives. A new summer event series will foster community engagement through music and cultural celebrations in the park adjacent to the recreation center.
