Bowser emphasized the importance of ensuring that every child has access to enriching opportunities during the summer, stating, "We want every young person in DC to have a summer filled with opportunities to grow, connect and have fun. " The District launched the Out of School Time DC portal to help families navigate available programs easily.

Deputy Mayor Paul Kihn added that the city strives to make opportunities accessible for every student in all neighborhoods. Thousands of free program slots are available through a collaboration of local agencies, including DC Public Schools and the Department of Parks and Recreation. Families are also encouraged to visit heat. dc. gov for resources on staying safe during extreme temperatures.
