Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated 146 new townhomes in the Reservoir District of Ward 5, including 22 affordable units, as part of National Homeownership Month. This project revitalizes the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which now features a recreation center, aquatic center, and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser highlighted the transformation of underutilized land into a dynamic neighborhood that fulfills community needs. The development, a partnership between the District of Columbia and Vision McMillan Partners, also includes future plans for apartments and retail spaces.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie emphasized the project's importance for long-time residents, reflecting community values and historical significance. Bowser's Growth Agenda supports continued investment in affordable housing, with over $100 million allocated for housing initiatives in the FY26 Budget. The Reservoir District aims to create a vibrant community where residents can live, work, and enjoy various amenities. Additionally, a summer event series will foster community engagement through music, culture, and wellness activities.
