Washington, DCLocal News

Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes, delivering 146 homes, 22 of which are affordable, to Ward 5. The project is part of a broader redevelopment of the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, aimed at creating a mixed-use neighborhood. Bowser highlighted the role of public-private partnerships in repurposing underutilized land and addressing the housing needs of D. C. residents.

Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, who has a personal connection to the site, emphasized the community-centric approach of the project. Designed with historical elements, the townhomes feature white brick facades that complement the preserved structures of the area. This initiative aligns with Bowser's Growth Agenda, which includes a $100 million commitment to the Housing Protection Trust Fund and other housing programs. The Reservoir District also announced a summer event series to foster community engagement. The ribbon-cutting marks a significant step in revitalizing the neighborhood and enhancing local amenities.
