Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that families in Washington, DC, can still register their children for free summer programs, including STEM camps and library activities, despite the ongoing Extreme Heat Alert. The summer initiatives, including the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program and various recreational activities, aim to provide enriching experiences for youth. Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn emphasized the District's commitment to making summer opportunities accessible through the Out of School Time DC (MOST-DC) portal, which simplifies the registration process. Thousands of free slots are still available, ensuring that children can engage in diverse programs across the city.
Additionally, families are urged to take precautions against the heat by visiting heat. dc. gov for resources. Activities include DCPS Middle School Summer Learning and the DC Public Library’s Discover Summer, which features hundreds of events until August 31. The District has invested significantly in summer programming, recognizing its importance for community growth.
Local youth are encouraged to participate in activities that foster learning and connection during the summer months.
