Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, delivering 146 for-sale units, including 22 affordable homes. This initiative revitalizes the long-abandoned McMillan Sand Filtration Site, transforming it into a mixed-use neighborhood with ample amenities. Bowser emphasized that public-private partnerships are key to providing resources that meet community needs. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie noted the project’s significance to long-time residents and its alignment with community values. The townhomes’ design features white brick facades that echo the historic structures on-site.
This development supports Bowser's Growth Agenda, which allocates $100 million for the Housing Protection Trust Fund and over $175 million for new community developments. Additionally, the Reservoir District will host a summer event series to engage residents and celebrate local culture. The project aims to foster a sense of community while enhancing homeownership opportunities in Washington, DC.
