Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, providing 146 for-sale homes, including 22 affordable units. This development is part of a larger initiative to revitalize the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which now features a recreation center and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser emphasized the importance of transforming underutilized land into productive resources for residents. The project, realized through a public-private partnership with Vision McMillan Partners, aims to create a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed pride in the project’s local significance and its long-term development journey. The townhomes' design complements the preserved historic structures on-site, aligning with the Bowser Administration's affordable housing goals. Bowser’s FY26 Budget allocates substantial funds to support housing initiatives, demonstrating a commitment to inclusive prosperity. The Reservoir District also announced a summer event series to foster community engagement and celebrate local culture.
