Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes, delivering 146 for-sale units in Ward 5, including 22 affordable homes. This project signifies a major step in revitalizing the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site into a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood, complete with a recreation center and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser underscored the importance of transforming underutilized land into productive spaces that meet community needs. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie, a local resident, highlighted the project's long-term significance and its alignment with community values.
The townhome exteriors are designed to honor the site's historical architecture, reinforcing the commitment to affordable housing in DC. Mayor Bowser’s FY26 Budget allocates $100 million for the Housing Protection Trust Fund and additional funds for housing improvements. The Reservoir District also announced a summer event series to engage the community with music and wellness activities. This initiative not only enhances local amenities but also fosters a sense of community among residents.
