Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, introducing 146 new for-sale homes, including 22 affordable options. This initiative is part of an extensive redevelopment of the McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which now features a new recreation center and a 6. 2-acre park. Mayor Bowser highlighted the project's role in creating homeownership opportunities, stating it exemplifies the effective use of underutilized land. The Reservoir District represents a public-private partnership between the District of Columbia and Vision McMillan Partners, with plans for additional residential and commercial developments.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie emphasized the project’s long-awaited significance to the community, aligning with local values and needs. The townhome designs echo the historic aesthetics of the site, enhancing the neighborhood's character. The Bowser Administration's commitment to affordable housing is further illustrated by the FY26 Budget, which allocates substantial funds for housing initiatives. The launch of a summer event series at the Reservoir District aims to foster community engagement and celebrate the new neighborhood.
