Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced free summer programs for District youth, with registration still open for various enriching opportunities. Families can choose from a wide range of activities, including STEM camps, library events, and evening hangouts, ensuring every young person can enjoy a productive summer. With the city currently under an Extreme Heat Alert, the Mayor urged families to stay hydrated and utilize cooling resources available across DC. The District's Out of School Time DC (MOST-DC) portal allows parents to easily find and register for programs based on location and age, streamlining the process. Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn stressed the importance of making opportunities accessible, noting that thousands of slots are available.
Programs include DCPS Middle School Summer Learning and the DC Public Library’s Discover Summer, among others. Families can explore additional activities on DPR's websites, highlighting the city's commitment to youth engagement. These initiatives aim to provide safe and enjoyable summer experiences for all children and teens in the District.
