Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that registration for free summer programs for Washington, DC youth remains open as the summer season kicks off. The District, currently under an Extreme Heat Alert, offers a range of activities, including STEM camps, library programming, and evening events aimed at engaging young residents. Bowser emphasized the critical role of these programs in fostering growth and connection among youth, stating, "We want every young person in DC to have a summer filled with opportunities to grow, connect and have fun. " Families can easily find and register for available programs through the Out of School Time DC portal, which has seen significant use since its launch. The coordinated effort involves multiple agencies, including DCPS and the Department of Parks and Recreation.
Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn stated that the focus is on providing experiences that meet the diverse needs of students.
