Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, delivering 146 new homes, including 22 affordable units. This development is part of a larger initiative to revitalize the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which now features a recreation center and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser emphasized the importance of transforming underutilized land into vibrant communities that offer homeownership opportunities. The project is a collaboration between the District of Columbia and Vision McMillan Partners, showcasing a commitment to inclusive prosperity.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie highlighted that the project represents community values and provides essential neighborhood amenities, including a world-class recreation center. The townhomes are designed to complement the site's historic structures with white brick facades. Bowser’s FY26 Budget allocates significant funds for housing initiatives, including $100 million for the Housing Protection Trust Fund. The Reservoir District also launched a summer event series to foster community engagement, featuring live performances and wellness activities.
