Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser officially opened the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, which includes 146 for-sale units, with 22 affordable homes. This initiative is part of a larger redevelopment of the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which also features a new recreation center and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser noted the project's role in converting underutilized land into valuable community resources. The Reservoir District represents a collaboration between the District of Columbia and private developers, aiming to create a mixed-use neighborhood.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed his pride in the project, emphasizing its alignment with community values and the importance of affordable housing. The townhomes' design pays homage to the site's historic structures. Bowser's budget for FY26 allocates significant funds toward housing initiatives, including $100 million for the Housing Protection Trust Fund. The project also launched a summer event series to engage the community and promote local culture.
