Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser officially launched the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, featuring 146 for-sale homes, including 22 designated as affordable. This initiative is part of a larger redevelopment of the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which now hosts a recreation center, aquatic center, and a 6. 2-acre park. Mayor Bowser emphasized the value of converting underutilized land into vibrant communities that provide essential resources and amenities. The project is a public-private partnership with Vision McMillan Partners, which will also develop additional residential and retail spaces.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed pride in the project's alignment with community values and its significance for long-time residents. Bowser's FY26 Budget allocates substantial resources for housing initiatives, including $100 million for the Housing Protection Trust Fund and $23 million for the Home Purchase Assistance Program. The townhome designs echo the site's historic structures, enhancing the area's character. The Reservoir District will also host a summer event series aimed at fostering community engagement and celebrating local culture.
