Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser officially opened the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, which includes 146 units, of which 22 are affordable. This project is part of a significant redevelopment of the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, now envisioned as a vibrant mixed-use neighborhood. Bowser stated that the site exemplifies the city’s ability to revitalize underutilized land and provide much-needed housing options. This public-private partnership involves multiple developers and aims to enhance local amenities, including a recreation center and park. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed personal pride in the project, emphasizing its reflection of community values and long-term residents' needs.
The opening coincides with the launch of a summer event series designed to foster community engagement and celebrate local culture. Bowser’s Growth Agenda continues to prioritize affordable housing, with substantial budget allocations to support housing initiatives. The Reservoir District aims to create a holistic community where residents can live, work, and enjoy recreational activities.
