Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, delivering 146 for-sale residences, including 22 affordable units. This initiative is part of a comprehensive redevelopment of the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which now includes a recreation center and a 6. 2-acre park. Bowser highlighted the importance of transforming underutilized land into new housing opportunities. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie expressed pride in the project, noting its reflection of community values and commitment to long-time residents.
The architectural design of the townhomes mirrors the site's historic structures, ensuring aesthetic continuity. This development supports Bowser’s Growth Agenda, which allocates significant funding to affordable housing through the FY26 Budget. Additionally, the Reservoir District will host its first summer event series, promoting community engagement through music, culture, and wellness activities. The new amenities aim to enrich the neighborhood and foster a sense of community among residents.
