Mayor Bowser Delivers First Housing and Homeownership Opportunities at Reservoir District on Former McMillan Site
Mayor Muriel Bowser inaugurated the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, which includes 146 for-sale homes, with 22 designated as affordable. This project is part of a redevelopment initiative on the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site, which also features a recreation center, an aquatic center, and a 6. 2-acre park. During the ribbon-cutting, Bowser emphasized the importance of utilizing underutilized land to create vibrant neighborhoods that fulfill community needs. The project is a collaboration between the District of Columbia and Vision McMillan Partners, showcasing a successful public-private partnership.
Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie noted the project's personal significance and its long-term benefits for local residents. The development reflects Bowser's commitment to affordable housing, supported by a budget that allocates over $175 million for new community initiatives. Additionally, the Reservoir District will host a summer event series designed to engage residents and promote community connections. This series will include live performances and wellness activities, further enhancing the neighborhood's appeal.
