Washington, DCLocal News

Mayor Muriel Bowser cut the ribbon on the Reservoir District Townhomes in Ward 5, introducing 146 for-sale homes, with 22 affordable options. This development is part of the transformation of the former McMillan Sand Filtration Site into a mixed-use neighborhood that includes parks and recreational facilities. Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie highlighted the project as a personal achievement, reflecting community values and long-term goals. The townhome design preserves the site's historic character, featuring white brick facades reminiscent of sand silos. Bowser's administration is committed to affordable housing, with the FY26 Budget allocating $100 million to the Housing Protection Trust Fund and other housing initiatives.

The project also announced a summer event series aimed at community engagement, featuring music, culture, and wellness activities. This initiative further supports the Bowser Administration's mission to create inclusive neighborhoods. As the Reservoir District develops, it aims to provide not just housing, but also a space for residents to live, work, and enjoy recreational activities.
