Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced free summer programs for District youth, encouraging families to register for activities amid an ongoing Extreme Heat Alert. The District offers a wide range of options, including STEM camps, library events, and outdoor adventures. Bowser urged families to stay hydrated and utilize available cooling centers during the heat wave. The Out of School Time DC (MOST-DC) portal streamlines the registration process, allowing parents to easily find programs based on location and age. Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn highlighted the initiative's goal of providing accessible opportunities for all youth.
Programs include DCPS Middle School Summer Learning, the Discover Summer initiative from the DC Public Library, and various fitness activities. The District's coordinated effort involves multiple city agencies, ensuring a comprehensive approach to summer engagement. Thousands of slots in these programs remain open for registration, offering enriching experiences for children and teens.
