Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced free summer programs available for District youth, encouraging families to register as summer activities commence. The Mayor underscored the significance of these programs amid an Extreme Heat Alert, which remains in effect until June 25. The offerings include a diverse range of activities such as STEM camps, library programming, and evening hangouts, with slots still open for registration. Families can utilize the Out of School Time DC portal to easily find and enroll in programs suited to their children's needs. Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn noted the importance of providing accessible opportunities that foster learning and engagement for students.
This summer initiative includes various programs, such as DCPS Middle School Summer Learning and the Junior Lifeguard Academy. In addition, the community can participate in events like Weekly Veggie Giveaways and fitness sessions at local parks. The coordinated effort among city departments aims to create enriching experiences that support youth across all neighborhoods in the District.
