The initiative coincides with the launch of summer camps and the Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program, aiming to engage children and teens in enriching activities. Current offerings include STEM camps, library events, and various evening hangouts, all while families are reminded to stay safe during the Extreme Heat Alert. Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn emphasized the importance of accessible opportunities for every student in the community.

The District launched the Out of School Time DC (MOST-DC) portal to streamline registration for families, who have already utilized it extensively. Thousands of program slots remain open, supporting educational and recreational experiences for children. The summer programming aims to foster growth, connection, and enjoyment among youth across all eight wards. Programs include fitness classes, field trips, and other engaging activities designed to keep kids active and learning throughout the summer.
