Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser emphasized the availability of free summer programs for youth in Washington, DC, as registration for various activities begins. These programs encompass STEM camps, library events, and the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program, all aimed at enriching the summer experience for children and teens. Bowser highlighted the significance of these programs for community development, especially during the ongoing Extreme Heat Alert, encouraging families to prioritize safety and hydration. The District launched the Out of School Time DC (MOST-DC) portal to facilitate program registration, which allows parents to search by location, age, and cost.
Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn affirmed their commitment to making opportunities accessible and engaging for every student. Thousands of free slots remain available, with activities tailored to meet diverse needs. This summer, the District collaborates with DCPS, the Department of Parks and Recreation, and the DC Public Library to provide a wide range of enriching experiences. Families can explore additional programming options through DPR’s websites.
