Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that families can still register for a variety of free summer programs for District youth, including STEM camps and outdoor activities. This announcement coincides with an Extreme Heat Alert, prompting the Mayor to emphasize the importance of staying hydrated and safe in high temperatures. The District has launched the Out of School Time DC portal to help families navigate available summer activities easily. Thousands of slots remain open, with programs offered through partnerships with DCPS, DPR, and the DC Public Library. Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn stated the city aims to provide enriching experiences that cater to every student’s needs.
Programs include academic enrichment for rising middle schoolers, library events, and evening activities for teens. The initiative illustrates the city's commitment to investing in youth programming and community engagement. Families are encouraged to explore additional offerings through DPR’s websites for a full calendar of events.
