Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the availability of free summer programs for D. C. youth, emphasizing immediate registration as families face an Extreme Heat Alert. The city offers a range of activities, including STEM camps, library events, and evening hangouts, designed to foster growth and connection among young people. Families can utilize the Out of School Time DC (MOST-DC) portal, which simplifies the registration process and has already seen significant usage.
Thousands of program slots remain available, facilitated by a collaboration between the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education, D. C. Public Schools, and other local organizations. Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn underscored the commitment to providing enriching experiences tailored to meet diverse student needs. The summer programming includes options like the Junior Lifeguard Academy and DCPS Middle School Summer Learning, ensuring a broad spectrum of engagement.
Additionally, families can access fitness classes and community events through DPR's initiatives. This comprehensive approach aims to ensure that every young resident has access to valuable summer experiences, even amid extreme weather conditions.
