Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced free summer programs for youth in Washington, DC, urging families to register as slots remain available. The summer activities include STEM camps, library events, and evening gatherings, designed to foster growth and connection among children and teens. With an Extreme Heat Alert currently active, the city emphasizes the importance of safety and hydration during outdoor activities. Families can utilize the Out of School Time DC portal for easy registration and program discovery based on location, age, and cost. Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn stated that the goal is to provide accessible opportunities for every student in the community.
Various programs are still open for registration, including DCPS Middle School Summer Learning and the DC Public Library’s Discover Summer initiative. The District collaborates with DCPS, DPR, and the DC Public Library to ensure a wide range of enriching experiences. Additional activities, such as weekly veggie giveaways and fitness classes, are also available to engage the youth throughout the summer.
