Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced numerous free summer programs available for youth in Washington, DC, urging families to register for enriching activities. "We want every young person in DC to have a summer filled with opportunities to grow, connect and have fun," said Bowser. Programs include DCPS Middle School Summer Learning and the Junior Lifeguard Academy, with slots still open for registration. The District launched the MOST-DC portal to help families navigate and enroll in various offerings based on their needs. Additionally, families are encouraged to stay safe during an Extreme Heat Alert by staying hydrated and utilizing local cooling centers.
Thousands have already used the portal to plan their summer activities. The collaboration involves the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Education, DCPS, and the Department of Parks and Recreation. The initiative aims to create accessible and engaging experiences for students throughout the District.
