Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced free summer programs for District youth, urging families to register before slots fill up. The programs encompass a wide range of activities, including STEM camps, library events, and evening hangouts, designed to foster growth and connection among young people. Amid an Extreme Heat Alert, the Mayor emphasized the importance of staying safe and hydrated during outdoor activities. The newly launched Out of School Time DC portal allows parents to easily navigate and register for available programs tailored to their children's needs. Thousands of program slots remain open, supported by various city agencies, including DCPS and DPR.
Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn reiterated the commitment to providing enriching experiences for students. Notable programs include the Junior Lifeguard Academy and weekly veggie giveaways, among others. Families can explore additional activities through the DPR's program websites.
