Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser highlighted the availability of free summer programs for District youth as families begin summer activities across all eight wards. The programs include STEM camps, library events, and evening hangouts designed to keep young people engaged. As the city remains under an Extreme Heat Alert, families are encouraged to stay safe and cool. The Out of School Time DC (MOST-DC) portal was launched to help families navigate and register for summer programs. Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn affirmed the city's commitment to providing enriching experiences that meet the needs of every student.
Thousands of program slots are still available through a coordinated effort involving the Department of Parks and Recreation, DC Public Schools, and other city agencies. Specific offerings include middle school summer learning, fitness classes, and community events throughout the summer. The initiative reflects the city's investment in youth development and community engagement.
