Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that free summer programs for youth in Washington, DC, remain available for registration, including STEM camps and library events through the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program. Thousands of slots are open across all eight wards, providing diverse activities designed to engage children and teens. Families can easily navigate program options using the Out of School Time DC (MOST-DC) portal, which has already seen significant usage this summer. Bowser stressed the community's investment in these opportunities, especially amidst the current Extreme Heat Alert.
She urged families to stay safe and hydrated while enjoying the various activities. Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn reinforced the commitment to offer enriching experiences tailored to every student’s needs. Programs include DCPS Middle School Summer Learning, DC Public Library’s Discover Summer, and fitness classes in local parks. The District's collaborative effort involves multiple agencies, ensuring broad access and engagement for families throughout the summer months.
