Washington, DCLocal News

Mayor Muriel Bowser announced free summer programs for District youth, encouraging families to register for various activities available across all eight wards. The offerings include engaging options such as STEM camps, library events, and evening hangouts, all designed to provide enriching experiences this summer. Amid an Extreme Heat Alert, families are urged to prioritize safety by visiting heat. dc. gov for resources on staying cool.

Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn stated the focus is on making opportunities accessible for every student in the District. The Out of School Time DC (MOST-DC) portal was launched earlier this year to assist families in finding and registering for programs based on location and age. Thousands of slots remain available, including middle school summer learning and Junior Lifeguard Academy courses. The District’s coordinated efforts involve support from various departments, ensuring a wide range of programs for children and teens. Additional activities, including fitness classes and veggie giveaways, contribute to a vibrant summer landscape for the community.
