Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced that families in Washington, DC can still register for free summer programs as the summer season kicks off. These programs include STEM camps, library events, and the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program, all aimed at providing enriching experiences for youth. The District launched the Out of School Time DC (MOST-DC) portal to simplify the registration process, allowing families to search by location, age, and cost. Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn emphasized the importance of making opportunities accessible to every student in the community.
Thousands of slots remain available as the city encourages participation while promoting safety during an Extreme Heat Alert. Families can find resources for staying cool at heat. dc. gov. Activities offered include academic programs, late-night events, and fitness classes, designed to engage youth in a variety of ways.
