Mayor Bowser Highlights Free, Safe and Fun Summer Opportunities for DC Youth, Encourages Families to Stay Cool During Extreme Heat
Mayor Muriel Bowser announced the launch of free summer programs for youth in Washington, D. C. , coinciding with the start of summer camps and the Mayor Marion S. Barry Summer Youth Employment Program. Families can register for various activities, including STEM camps, library events, and evening hangouts, ensuring children have enriching experiences this summer.
Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn stated that the goal is to make opportunities easily accessible to all families. With the District under an Extreme Heat Alert, families are encouraged to stay safe by visiting heat. dc. gov for resources. The Out of School Time DC portal, launched earlier this year, helps parents find and register for programs based on location and age.
Thousands of free slots remain available, showcasing the District's commitment to youth engagement. Specific programs include DCPS Middle School Summer Learning and the Junior Lifeguard Academy, among others. These initiatives aim to provide a safe and enjoyable summer for the youth of D. C.
