Whale Watch Week returns for spring break 2025. Here's where to spot them along the Oregon coast

Vancouver, WALocal News

Spring Whale Watch Week will be hosted along the Oregon coast from March 22 to March 30, 2025, by Oregon State Parks. This event presents a unique opportunity for visitors to witness the migration of gray whales, which typically come closer to shore during this time. Park ranger Peter McBride notes that spring is particularly exciting, as whales may be accompanied by calves. Volunteers and rangers will be stationed at 14 different locations to help visitors spot the whales and provide valuable information from 10 a. m.

to 1 p. m. each day. The Whale Watching Center in Depoe Bay will also be operational during the event, offering binoculars for enhanced viewing. However, Cape Foulweather will not be part of this year's event due to ongoing construction.

The gray whale population has seen a notable increase, with around 19,260 expected to pass Oregon's shores this spring. Attendees are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and share their experiences on social media using designated hashtags.
