Vancouver, WALocal News

The 22nd annual KGW Great Food Drive has launched in Portland, with the goal of providing over 1. 2 million meals to residents facing food insecurity across Oregon and Southwest Washington. Throughout March, the campaign focuses on monetary donations, which can be matched by participating corporate partners, including Pacific Foods and local Toyota dealers. Last year, 1 in 8 Oregonians sought food assistance, and the Oregon Food Bank distributed an astounding 91 million meals, underscoring the urgent need for this initiative. The drive aims to support 21 regional food banks and 1,400 food assistance sites, making it a significant community effort.

Greg Retsinas, KGW’s President, highlighted that every contribution makes a meaningful difference in the fight against hunger. Rivermark Community Credit Union’s CEO, Jason Werts, emphasized the personal connection many have to this issue, urging donations at their branches. The collaborative nature of this drive, involving local businesses and community organizations, showcases a strong commitment to addressing food insecurity. As the campaign progresses, it calls for community participation to help neighbors in need.
