30 million in federal funding for Community Connector Lid project awarded

Vancouver, WALocal News

Vancouver has successfully secured $30 million in federal funding for the Community Connector Lid project, a key initiative aimed at enhancing connectivity across I-5. This project, integral to the Interstate Bridge Replacement Program, seeks to create public spaces and pathways that promote active transportation while reconnecting downtown Vancouver with the historic Fort Vancouver Reserve. Mayor Anne McEnerny-Ogle highlighted the project's roots in the original Columbia River Crossing concept, emphasizing years of planning and community engagement. The city held discussions with local leaders in 2024, resulting in 20 letters of support for the grant application. The Connector will be strategically located near a new light-rail station, further enhancing transportation options in the area.

The Interstate Bridge Replacement Program has committed an additional $30 million to fulfill the grant's matching requirements. This funding marks the largest competitive grant the City of Vancouver has ever received, showcasing the effectiveness of collaboration. The community can expect more engagement activities as the planning for the Connector progresses.
